Education is Life

To me, education is life. To many this may sound like a fairly depressing statement. However this depends on what you perceive to be education. I do not see education through the lens which we have crafted in our modern society, one of statistical requirements and routine work days. Instead I take a step back from the lens and take in the great landscape of human development. From establishing new relationships to exploring unknown lands. True education begins with that tingling excitement as we consider the prospects of something new. True education is something that can, not only be learnt from another being, but be explored and expanded in the depths of our own mind.

I believe that education is not something which should be attended like a crappy holiday resort in order to pick up a certificate that equals a steady income, but instead a constant stream of beauty which naturally carries us through the enjoyment of life. The current education system is but a flimsy label covering something truly incredible which is best discovered naturally and cannot be forced upon an individual. Though assistance in education is very necessary and relevant, our method of assisting must be reexamined. We need to provide space for the exploration of ideas, this calls for an open education, no longer can we function in a one-way teaching method where the teacher is supposedly some hub of all knowledge. Instead the teacher should be a tool, allowing students to expand their thoughts, rather than examine them from a second hand textbook. Learning is infinite and I can't help but feel my school experience did not account for this. The new generation shape the future, so we must stop attempting to shape it into a mold of the past. If anything we may be preventing future discoveries by stunting thought processes in box with a lack of air holes.

Ultimately education spawns from the love of life and the need to satisfy our self development, which in turn inspires others to bask in the love of life. So if we hit the right note, surely we can achieve a harmony of a forever expanding orchestra, however, I believe it may require us to leave the manuscript which contains our current idealogy of education. If you can momentarily take on the template of 'education is life' you can join me in an exploration of our current society's perception of 'life'. Look at your educational experience and ask yourself "does this correspond with my perception of life?".
